Who is Clifton Meador?

Clifton K. Meador, MD has a gift for filtering through the tales and ‘can you beat this one’ stories shared among medical professionals, curating 35 of the most intriguing cases. A ‘fascinoma’ is medical slang for an unusually interesting medical case. Meador’s book compiles real-life cases that play out like gripping detective stories, offering valuable insights into the power of observation and patient engagement.

Recent Interview with Clifton Meador

JEAN: How can a diagnosis actually lead to a patient creating the outcome the physician suggests?

CLIFTON: Not all illnesses have a defined medical diagnosis, but all symptoms have a demonstrable cause if investigated carefully. Sometimes, false diagnoses mislead patients, becoming barriers to finding the real cause of their symptoms. For example, hypoglycemia is often misdiagnosed, preventing further investigation into the actual source of a person’s health issues.

JEAN: In what way can a person with a chronic health condition shift energy to promote healing?

CLIFTON: Patients should examine their daily lives, keeping a diary to track connections between their symptoms and environmental or emotional stressors. Awareness is the first step to healing—it requires willingness to look deeper into one’s life.

JEAN: Can you share some examples of Fascinomas?

CLIFTON: One fascinating case involved a young man suffering from a years-long illness with symptoms like fever and weakness. After countless tests, a doctor noticed white flecks on the man’s face—blue cheese. The man ate blue cheese daily, which contains two penicillin molds. Eliminating blue cheese cured him of what turned out to be an immune reaction known as serum sickness. This case demonstrates how symptoms can sometimes be tied to unexpected, unique factors.
